Offender Work & Training Programs


The Offender Work & Training Programs Division staff oversee four designated training facilities, manage the Work Against Recidivism (WAR) program and is responsible for coordinating offender on-the-job training (OJT) for Texas Correctional Industries (TCI). Division staff receive, log, review and process offender applications for offender jobs at TCI facilities. Division staff also coordinates transfers for eligible offenders, coordinates testing procedures and conducts testing/proctoring.


PIE Program


Prison Industry Enhancement Certification Program

The Prison Industry Enhancement (PIE) Certification Program is a partnership between the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a private company, which allows the company to employ offenders that have volunteered to be a part of the program. The offenders are paid by the private company and deductions are taken from their wages for the offenders' taxes, room and board, dependent support, restitution and a contribution is made to a crime victims' fund.
